The problem: Generals inadvertently did not submit a 1b, 2b, 3b position players this week. The solution was to take the only players available to plug in off the bench.
I agree Tony/Kenny have a point that Generals lineup should be reconfigured to be as ineffective as possible however, the prevailing system is to construct a legal lineup with the least effort and advantage to the inadvertent perpetrator.
To populate lineups with Unfilled Position Players once play has begun:
* Leave everyone submitted at ltheir eligible position where they are
* Fill in the Open slots with bench players eligible at vacant positions.
* The Eligible bench player who scores The Least points is he who fills the vacancy.
If Desmond did quality at a vacant slot, he would/could be inserted, but the availalble slots were 1b-2b-3b. There were four players on bench. Desmond was the only of the four who does not quality at the Unfilled slots without moving legally started players Out of the lineup.
I realise this explanation may not seem satisfactory.
Either system has its plusses or minuses, I think its just pick your poison.
Based on my experience the last dozen years or so this works but Im game for a change if desired.

Note: If one of the 8 players in Generals lineup had been started at an Ineligible slot, that player would be removed and replaced by the worst performing player eligible from bench.
Note: You may start less than 8 pitchers without having the holes mandatorily patched, but you do need 8 pitchers on your roster.
